This course introduces digital delivery and BIM in a practical, project focused way for AECO professionals who need to develop an understanding of how digital delivery affects coordination, communication, documentation, field workflows, and project management.

BIMbc's Digital Delivery Foundations course helps participants understand the language, systems, responsibilities, and workflows that shape digital delivery on construction projects. At the end of this course, graduates are expected to understand how to participate more actively and effectively in coordinated digital workflows, communicate with BIM and digital delivery teams, and support better information use across project delivery.
The course uses practical AECO scenarios, guided workshop activities, and collaborative discussion to create an active and applied learning environment. This is why the program is delivered in person and why participation in the room matters.
This course is not a software tutorial and is not designed for experienced BIM managers. It is designed for AECO practitioners who need a strong working foundation in BIM enabled project delivery.
A foundation course for project teams.
This course is designed for people who are new to BIM and digital delivery, or who work around BIM processes without formal training in how they function. It is especially relevant for project coordinators, assistant project managers, project managers, field personnel, site supervisors, junior BIM coordinators, owner representatives, and emerging AECO practitioners.
The course is not intended to replace advanced BIM management or BIM coordination training. It provides the practical foundation needed to understand BIM enabled project delivery, CDEs, BEP execution, coordination workflows, and the role of information in project performance.

What the course covers.
This course helps AECO project team members understand the foundations of BIM and digital delivery from a practical project delivery perspective. It explains what BIM is, how digital delivery supports project communication and coordination, and why information management matters across design, construction, and handover.
Participants will explore common BIM applications, including coordination, visualization, quantity related workflows, issue management, construction planning, field communication, and handover support. The course also introduces the role of common data environments, folder structures, permissions, naming conventions, information exchange, and digital project infrastructure.
The course includes practical discussion of BIM Execution Plans (BEPs) and how BEPs guide responsibilities, workflows, coordination procedures, information exchange, and model use on real projects. Participants will also learn how BIM coordination and issue management support project delivery, and how project teams can participate effectively without needing to become advanced BIM specialists.
The emphasis is on practical understanding, project participation, and digital delivery awareness. Participants leave with the ability to understand key BIM and digital delivery concepts, communicate more effectively with BIM and digital delivery teams, participate in coordinated workflows, and support better information use on projects.

CDE Setup and Digital Infrastructure
Common data environments, folder structures, permissions, naming conventions, information exchange, and digital project infrastructure.
BEP Execution and BIM Coordination
How BIM Execution Plans guide responsibilities, workflows, coordination procedures, information exchange, and model use on real projects.
Practical BIM Applications
Coordination, visualization, quantity related workflows, issue management, construction planning, field communication, and handover support.

Eligible B.C. employers may be able to apply for the B.C. Employer Training Grant to support employee participation in this course. The program helps employers invest in skills training for current or prospective employees and may reimburse a portion of eligible training costs.
